SRQ ARES Mission Statement
SRQ ARES (Sarasota County Amateur Radio Emergency Service) is a volunteer organization of trained, FCC‑licensed Amateur Radio operators dedicated to providing reliable, resilient, and non‑commercial emergency communications in support of public safety and community resilience. As part of the American Radio Relay League (ARRL) field organization, SRQ ARES serves as an auxiliary communications resource to the American Red Cross, Sarasota Memorial Hospital, and when requested, to partner agencies including other governmental or non‑governmental organizations including Sarasota County Emergency Management upon request.
SRQ ARES supports the community by delivering supplemental and contingency communications during emergencies, disasters, and planned events. This includes assisting any organization within Sarasota County that requires communications support—public, private, or nonprofit—when such assistance is requested and appropriate.
In addition to county‑level operations, SRQ ARES participates in regional mutual‑aid efforts, providing interoperable communications support to neighboring counties and collaborating with the ARRL West Central Florida Section leadership to ensure coordinated, effective response across jurisdictional boundaries.
Who Makes Up SRQ ARES?
Membership is open to all licensed, Sarasota County Amateur Radio operators dedicated to volunteering their time, equipment, and skills for emergency communications needs. This reserve of volunteers, working as one organization, provides communications for Sarasota County communities and served agencies. Anyone, regardless of club or other Amateur Radio affiliations, with a sincere interest and desire to help the community with its emergency communication needs, is invited to apply for membership in SRQ ARES.
